Hello! I’m Pastor LaDonna Thomas. I am filled with joy to be to be here at St. Paul Lutheran Church!
I am from Hanover, PA, where I have lived for the past 12 years, serving as pastor of St. David’s Lutheran Church. Since my ordination 27 years ago, I have served 4 different congregations in south-central PA, in the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the ELCA. I am a graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now United Lutheran Seminary), with a Master of Divinity degree. My first three years of seminary were completed at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. I also hold a Master’s Degree in counseling and am certified as a Spiritual Director.
I was recently asked to state my personal mission in no more than 50 words (It’s harder than you might think. Try it for yourself!) Here is what I wrote, and it captures how I understand my place in God’s world: I am created to be fully alive, receptive and responsive to the presence of God in each moment, so that I may be a conduit for God’s love, grace, justice and peace in my personal, pastoral, collegial and community relationships.
One of the greatest joys in my call as pastor is discovering how God is present and working in our lives and how we can become part of that holy work. This happens in Bible study discussions, worship, committee meetings, choir rehearsals and pastoral conversations. I love it when a congregation makes connections with their community and finds ways to make the love of God and neighbor evident in concrete actions.
I work hard at keeping balance and living a healthy life. Hiking, reading, cooking, music, board and card games, and being with friends all fill and renew my spirit.
My family includes my adult daughter Rebekah and daughter-in-law, Maddie. They live in Missoula, MT where Rebekah is completing her seminary internship and Maddie is a doctoral candidate at the University of Montana. I have two older brothers and sisters. One lives in New Jersey and the others live in Ohio, where I was raised.
